Gordon Celebrates Scotland's Wholesale Sector

Gordon led a debate today in the Scottish Parliament on the Scottish wholesale sector, marking its “immense contribution” to Scotland’s economy.

In Scotland, wholesalers contribute over £4.3 billion to gross value added to the economy, providing over 35,000 businesses and consumers with a wide range of products. Across the UK, 30 wholesale local food champions have supported 130 local producers, and 30% of wholesalers’ turnover has come from Scottish products as a result.

Commenting, SNP MSP Gordon MacDonald said “Scotland’s wholesalers are of enormous importance to our economy, our communities and our people. Their contribution is vast and their reach enormous – with Scotland offering one of the largest choice and selection of food and drink from wholesalers across Europe, and supporting 6,000 local jobs.

“They not only allow our brilliant businesses to thrive, but they provide fantastic produce to households across the country, which is too often overlooked. I, along with colleagues across the Holyrood chamber, celebrate their immense contribution today, and will continue to do what I can to support them.”
